Video boards, anniversary posts and football talk are all on display this week. Oh, and the fact that the WAC has a deal where every sporting event will be broadcast on the ESPN platform. That is pretty impressive. Add in all the schedules being dropped and it makes for an entertaining week.
Aggies New Video Board
The Pan Am Center is my top arena in the WAC at this time. And it just got another facelift. Thursday morning NMSU Athletics Director Mario Moccia made the announcement. The installation process for a brand=new, state-of-the-art video board is complete. It is four-sided and is completely operational for the 2021-22 season and beyond. The faces are 11.5 feet tall and 18 feet wide and feature an LED board. There is also a top LED ring and bottom LED ring.
“When our new video board was first activated, I was blown away at the night-and-day difference between it and our old unit,” remarked Moccia. “To me, the viewing difference is akin to going from an old black-and-white television to a state-of-the-art model.”
The new board has the ability to screen live game action and full-screen replays with high-quality resolution.
Celebrating the Anniversary or Recruiting?
GCU women’s basketball head coach Molly Miller is one of the winningest coaches in college basketball. So, what do you think she did to celebrate her anniversary? And on Wednesday, Miller celebrated her 9th wedding anniversary. And with it, comes a unique post in which her husband places somewhat of a rhetorical question before her.
"I hope you're as excited for our 9 year anniversary as you are about calling these recruits" -Derek
Happy Anniversary babe, now hand me my phone 😉 pic.twitter.com/lJ6vgDeWDX

The response by Miller is perfect. She celebrates for a moment before getting back to work. It’s priceless. For what it’s worth, in her first season at GCU, Miller led the Lopes to a 3rd place finish in the regular season and a WAC tournament championship game appearance. So, seems like she can handle being a wife, mother and head coach.
Everything on ESPN Platforms
Jeff Hurd is leaving the WAC in January. But, Hurd is closing out his tenure as commissioner with a bang. The WAC was stabilized with the expansion. And now the WAC has a multi-year agreement to stream over 500 events on ESPN+ and the ESPN App. ESPN will also televise select regular season men’s basketball games and the championship games for the WAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments on ESPN linear networks. That is huge for the conference.
“The WAC and ESPN have a long history together and it’s exciting to continue that relationship into the future,” said WAC commissioner Jeff Hurd. “ESPN remains the gold standard when it comes to sports and this multi-year agreement will continue to assist in the WAC’s growth nationally.”
The WAC Digital Network will still broadcast games but only to International audiences.
Football Kicks Off with a WAC Matchup
Tarleton and Stephen F. Austin will take the field in the first football game in the WAC in who knows how long. Kickoff is at 6 p.m CST at Homer Bryce Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+. SFA holds a 9-4 advantage in the history of the series. However, Tarleton won the last matchup, 37-26, on Sept. 7, 2019 in Nacodoches. In fact, Tarleton has won the last two matchups between the two Texas schools. Should be a fun way to welcome football back to the WAC.
