REPORT – UTRGV Head Coach Lew Hill Passed Away Sunday Morning

According to college basketball writer Jeff Goodman, UTRGV men’s basketball head coach Lew Hill passed away in his sleep early Sunday morning.

Hill was 55 and in his fifth season as the head coach at UTRGV. According to the tweet, Hill had a bout with COVID and was set to step aside for the rest of the season.

The Vaqueros were coming off a 77-75 loss at Texas Southern on Saturday night. UTRGV is 8-4 overall and 2-0 in WAC play. Hill took over at UTRGV prior to the 2016-17. In his first season in Edinburg, the Vaqueros won 10 games. During his second season, the Vaqueros increased their total wins by five. And in his third season, the Vaqueros won 20 games. 2019-20 got off to a sluggish start and UTRGV only won 14 games. However, the Vaqueros won eight of their final 10 games of the 2019-20 season.

Just extremely sad news on this Sunday afternoon.
