WAC Hoops Digest Podcast – Thoughts on Midway Point of WAC Hoops

In this episode of the WAC Hoops Digest Podcast, Kyle and Tyler Creer talk about Tyler's article related to the mid-season grades. The two discuss some surprises as well as the disappointments. It is also mentioned who might earn that 2-seed at WAC Vegas...

The midway point of the regular season of WAC play is upon us. And right now, two things are absolute: New Mexico State is atop the standings and Chicago State is bringing up the rear. Four teams sit at 4-4 while two others sit at 3-5. All six of those teams are vying for the 2-seed at the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas in March. Technically, California Baptist sits in second place at 6-2 in WAC play. However, the Lancers are still in their transition phase to Division I and aren’t eligible for the WAC Tournament until 2022-23 season.

In this episode of the WAC Hoops Digest Podcast, Kyle and Tyler Creer talk about the midway point and talk about the grades that Tyler gave out earlier in the day. The pair of WAC enthusiasts talk about who will possibly earn that 2-seed. Both are in agreement that Seattle has the most experience. And perhaps if WAC Player of the Year candidate Terrell Brown has a big second half, the Redhawks will earn that 2-seed.

But, it is such a jumbled mess in the middle of the WAC. Kansas City beat California Baptist, Utah Valley, Seattle and Chicago State. CSU Bakersfield beat Utah Valley, Kansas City, Grand Canyon and Chicago State. Grand Canyon beat Kansas City, Seattle, UTRGV and Chicago State. Seattle beat Utah Valley, UTRGV, Chicago State and CSU Bakersfield. Do you see where we are going with this? Nobody has separated themselves thus far. Utah Valley sits at 3-5 and beat UTRGV, Grand Canyon and Chicago State. UTRGV is also at 3-5 and beat Kansas City, Chicago State and CSU Bakersfield. It’s just nuts.

So, at this midway point of the season, who will separate themselves?

These next 3-4 weeks of WAC play are going to be fun to watch. Some teams have more home games than others. Utah Valley plays five of its last eight games at the UCCU Center in Orem. UTRGV plays five of its last eight conference games on the road. So, it varies. But we know that road teams have had success this season. Road teams are 19-17 overall at the midway point this season. Not too shabby.

So, give this midway point episode a listen.
