In this episode of The WAC Hoops Digest Podcast, Kyle talks with New Mexico State head coach Chris Jans. The Aggies are 12-6 overall and 3-0 in WAC play. In fact, the Aggies are the last remaining undefeated team in the WAC. Currently, New Mexico State has won six straight including wins at Mississippi State and at California Baptist. The win at CBU avenged the only conference loss the Aggies have had in nearly two years. Pretty crazy to think about.
Perhaps the bad news for the Aggies is that guards A.J. Harris and Clayton Henry have been ruled out for the season. Harris suffered a foot injury against California Baptist. Henry’s season was cut short due to a wrist injury.
However, UTEP transfer Evan Gilyard has been eligible for about a month now and been a huge spark for the Aggies. Add in the fact that Trevelin Queen is playing like a WAC Player of the Year and this team is looking like the everyone expected in the preseason.
Jans also breaks down staying focused and not getting complacent with the winning. On Thursday night, in the WAC Spotlight Game, the Aggies take on Utah Valley in Orem. And Jans shares his thoughts on the matchup and first-year head coach Mark Madsen.
All in all this is a good interview with the Aggies head coach. New Mexico State is on track to win its third straight WAC regular season championship under Jans. And, if all plays out the way the Aggies hope, a third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament where the Aggies are looking to get to the second day.
