With some schedule adjustments we had a three game slate on Thursday to begin the sixth week of conference play and all three games were competitive including a buzzer beater in Riverside. Let’s get to Thursday’s rapid recap.

UTRGV 69, Utah Tech 65
In Edinburg, UTRGV (2-8), who had lost five straight games by a combined 34 points, got their second win in conference play. The Vaqueros also got a leg up in a fight for a very competitive final spot into WAC Vegas next month.
Breaunna Gillen’s 3-pointer with 4:27 left in regulation put Utah Tech up 58-57. That would be the Trailblazers final lead as UTRGV won the stretch run 12-7 to prevail.
The game wasn’t decided until Halie Jones connected on a 3-pointer with 73 seconds left to give the Vaqueros a 65-58 lead.
Utah Tech rallied to make it a 3-point game on an Emily Issacson heave with five seconds left. However, the Trailblazers ran out of time.
Mele Kailahi had 15 points and two rebounds to lead the way for UTRGV. Kailahi hit five 3-pointers including three in a row in the third quarter. Deborah Ogayemi added 14 points, 13 rebounds and three steals while Kacee Kyle added 13 points, three assists and a pair of rebounds. Chipping in 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds was Charlotte O’Keefe.
In defeat, Utah Tech (5-5) got 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and a pair of blocks from Amber Kartchner. Gillen added 10 points, five rebounds and five assists while Taylia Stimpson added another 10 points, four assists and a pair of rebounds.
Sam Houston 67, Seattle 60
At the Redhawk Center, Madelyn Batista had 21 points, 13 rebounds and a pair of rebounds to lead the Bearkats (6-4) in a win. Thursday’s win is big as the Bearkats are on a 3-game road trip to the West Coast.
In one of her finest performances as a Bearkat, Chyna Allen added 19 points and five rebounds for Sam Houston. This weekend’s trip out west will be Sam Houston’s final regular season road trip to the West Coast as they leave for Conference USA next year.
Taliyah Clark had 12 points, four rebounds and three assists to lead the Redhawks. Irena Korolenko added 11 points with five rebounds while Lisa Michaelsen added another 11 points for Seattle (3-7).
